Babatunde ImoukhuedeJuly 19, 2016:
We are informing you with great sadness about the death of Babatunde Imoukhuede, who passed away on 19th July after a long battle with cancer.
Babatunde was an active Science Board member of the Brighton Collaboration since 2012 and has greatly contributed to several of the Brighton Collaboration’s activities.
Babatunde graduated in 1984, with Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees from the University of Benin, Nigeria, and obtained a degree in Health Systems Management at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) in 2003.
He started focusing on malaria when working as a Clinical Research Fellow/Malaria Vaccine Trial Director for the Gates Malaria Partnership at the LSHTM. He gained extensive hands on experience while working at military hospitals in Nigeria and The Gambia, complemented by field experience as clinical epidemiologist and principal investigator between 2001 – 2004 at the Medical Research Council, The Gambia.
Babatunde joined the European Malaria Vaccine Initiative (now European Vaccine Initiative) in 2005. As Director of Clinical and Regulatory Affairs Babatunde’s main areas of responsibility were the supervision of clinical trials and European and Developing Countries’ Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) funded projects until 2013. Hereafter, he became clinical project manager and coordinator for the Vaccinology in Africa course at the Jenner Institute, Centre for Clinical Vaccinology and Tropical Medicine (University of Oxford).
Babatunde was well loved and will be sorely missed by all his family, friends and colleagues. Babtunde will stay in our hearts and memories as a dignified and humble man, an esteemed colleague and respected friend with his scientific legacy, his warm hearted smile and his sparkling sense of humor.
